In 13 seasons of the show, 151 different people have entered the Big Brother house so far. Since its debut in 2000, Big Brother US has run continuously with at least one season of the show airing each year. It is currently the second longest running version to have done so, after the Spanish version. On September 14, 2011, Big Brother was renewed for a 14th season. The HouseGuests compete for the chance to win a $500,000 grand prize by avoiding weekly eviction, until the last HouseGuest remains at the end of the season that can claim the $500,000 grand prize.

The American series is hosted by television personality Julie Chen. Produced by Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan for Fly On The Wall Entertainment, it currently airs in the United States on CBS and in Canada on Global.

After America's Next Top Model converted to the 1080i high definition format in February 2012, Big Brother is the last American primetime program on the five major English-language networks currently producing in 480i standard definition as of July 2012.

In all seasons, eviction night has been hosted by veteran television personality and news anchor, Julie Chen, wife of CBS President Les Moonves and co-host of the network's The Talk and formerly co-host of CBS's The Early Show.

Television critics gave Chen largely negative reviews during her first season (2000), citing wooden delivery, stilted interaction with the studio audience, weak interviews with evictees on the live programs, and her overuse of the phrase "But first..." This led fans to dub her "the Chenbot," a moniker of which Chen is aware and says she accepts.

The announcer played an active role in the first season introducing every scene, but with the major changes to the program after the initial season, the announcer was relegated to the opening and closing of each episode. There have been several different announcers throughout the years.

Past announcers include Dave Walsh (season one and episode 2 of season two),Chuck Riley (season two), and Phil Proctor (seasons 3-6). The current announcer is Clayton Halsey and has been the announcer since season seven.

The house guest who wins HOH will have the right to nominate two houesguests to be evicted out from the house. With the power of veto, the holder of it could choose to use it on one of the evictees to save them from possible eviction.

The same process occurs every week until one is left standing and 500,000 dollars richer. I started watching Big Brother around 3 years ago, and I have seen many improvements and twists added to the show. Like last year, when 12-14 house guests were playing secretly with their friend/boyfriend/girlfriend/best friend etc.

Last years edition I consider one of the best, because of the "Cat with 9 lives" James who had won the power of veto a recorded 4 times. Also Kaysar and Jannele were terrific players, because Kaysar was a fan favorite and the "brains" of Big Brother 6. As Jannele was a combination of Kaysar and James.

Another memorable Big Brother moment was Nakomis's 6 finger plan, also known as backdooring, where she finally got Jase evicted from the house. This show is really great to watch because its fun to watch how people will do anything for 500,000 dollars, which include lieing, backstabbing, back dooring, and the list goes on.
