The Trotters will be hoping to improve upon a record which has seen them ending up on the losing side in more than half of the games played between the two.

The most recent encounter between these two sides at Turf Moor was less than a year ago, in August 2012, with Burnley running out comfortable 2 - 0 winners in a Championship match.

David Jones is in line to make his Burnley bow following his arrival on Thursday while fellow new recruit Tom Heaton is likely to start in goal.

Bolton will kick off the season with three long-term injuries to contend with.

Stuart Holden's injury woes continued when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee while on international duty with the United States.

The midfielder therefore joined young full-back Joe Riley on sidelines - the defender having suffered a similar injury - and Mark Davies, who the Trotters are hopeful will be back before Christmas from a knee problem.

Striker Jermaine Beckford could make his Bolton debut but will not do so in tandem with Marvin Sordell after he secured a season-long loan to Charlton on Thursday.

David Jones is hoping to make a start and fellow new recruit Tom Heaton is likely to start in goal.

Burnley

Burnley, who were champions of England in 1921 and 1960, are one of three current Championship clubs to have spent just one season in the Premier League (2009/10).

The Clarets started last season with a win, and then lost their next three league matches.

They are kicking off at Turf Moor for the fourth year running (W2, D1). Defeat will take the club's total of home losses in second-tier football to 200.

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton, like Burnley, are entering their 115th league campaign, but have never been crowned champions of England.

They are one of four Football League founder members competing in the Championship this season, which is also their second year outside the Premier League.

Dougie Freedman masterminded a late bid for the play-offs last season, guiding the Trotters from 20th in the first week of February to a seventh-placed finish.

New winger Derk Boerrigter goes straight into the squad having arrived from Ajax on a four-year deal, but fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk remains sidelined by a foot problem.

Ross County will be missing midfielders Richard Brittain and Ivan Sproule for the trip because of suspension.

The pair begin two-match bans having been sent off during pre-season friendlies and may be joined on the sidelines by Melvin De Leeuw, who is battling to overcome an ankle knock.

SPL champions Celtic welcome last season’s fifth placed side Ross County in the opening game of the Scottish Premiership this Saturday. Neil Lennon’s side go into the fixture having beaten Swedish champions Elfsborg in Champions League qualifier midweek, and will be hoping for a straightforward opening game before the return leg next Wednesday. Ross County travel south knowing that they made life difficult for Celtic on more than one occasion and will be hoping to spoil the party as Celtic unveil the league flag before the home crowd.

Celtic will be hoping to fare better against the Highland side this season, managing only one win in four attempts in the last campaign. Derek Adams side were probably the champion’s bogey team, and they will be wary of that. So far, Celtic have said goodbye to Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper who have both made high profile moves to the English Premiership.

They have added Virgil Van Dijk, Amido Balde and Steven Mouyokolo to their squad, and most recently tied up the signing of Derk Boerrigter from Ajax. The Dutch winger is not short on confidence and spoke candidly on himself at today’s press conference

Ross County had an excellent debut campaign in the SPL last season, outperforming a number of their so called more illustrious rivals by securing a top six finish. The Dingwall outfit have, however, lost a number of players in the summer and repeating their impressive form of last season will be difficult. With the likes of Paul Lawson, Ian Vigurs and Mark Fortheringham having left the club for free in the summer, manager Adams has a difficult task ahead of him.

Despite their performances against Celtic last season, I feel Ross County will struggle after a poor pre season and with the loss of a number of key players over the summer. Celtic will be in high spirits with the unveiling of the league flag, and will also be sharper due to having played three competitive fixtures already this season. The champions will put on a show, and run out comfortable winners.

Celtic have won their last 12 home matches in the Premier League.

Ross County have conceded at least 2 goals in their last 4 away matches in the Premier League.

There have been over 2.5 goals Celtic’s last 9 home games in the Premier League.

After a number of near misses, the Highlanders finally made it into the SPL’s top six for the first time last season. Despite that, it was still a season of close things for Terry Butcher’s men. Final day results saw them miss out on their first ever European adventure, while they were denied a place in the League Cup Final by a penalty shoot-out defeat to Hearts.

The fantastic things Butcher has done in Inverness has understandably made him a wanted man but he is in no hurry to leave the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, having turned down an approach from Barnsley last season. The aim for the new campaign will be to at least match last season, with Caley Thistle fans hoping their side can go at least one better in the league or the cup.

After losing a number of key players over the summer – including goalie Antonio Reguero and midfielders Owain Tudur Jones and Andrew Shinnie – Butcher and assistant Maurice Malpas have spent the summer building a new squad. They’ve managed to sign enough new players to field an entirely new team, although it’s fair to say few of them will be familiar names to Scottish football fans as all of the new recruits have come from down south.

Perhaps the most interesting is Ben Greenhalgh, one of the few players in the top flight who can include a stint at Italian giants Inter Milan on his CV. The winger won a short-term deal at the San Siro three years ago after impressing on Sky’s reality show “Football’s Next Star”, but has spent the last few seasons in the rather more humble surroundings of English non-league football. The switch to Scotland should provide him with a bigger stage on which to display the talents that won him his big move.

Despite the summer signing spree Butcher still has a fair number of last season’s squad at his disposal. Billy McKay hit an incredible 27 goals last year and getting him to stick around was a good bit of business, while David Raven, Gary Warren and Josh Meekings all did well in defence. Ryan Esson may revert to being first choice goalie now that Reguero has gone, with younger players Graeme Shinnie, midfielder Nick Ross and winger Aaron Doran continuing to impress.

Saints and Inverness Caley Thistle met on the opening day of the season last year, although on that occasion it was in Paisley rather than the Highlands. A debut goal from Lewis Guy gave the Buddies a half-time lead but strikes from Nick Ross and Billy McKay during a second half downpour looked to have given the visitors the win, only for Darren McGregor to snatch a point with a stoppage time header.

There was another 2-2 draw on Boxing Day – Dougie Imrie and Steven Thompson scoring for Saints – with the third meeting finally producing a winner, Thompson’s late header giving Saints all three points after McKay had cancelled out Esmael Goncalves’ opener. It was a different Steven Thomson that scored the last time the Buddies picked up all three points in Inverness, the midfielder scoring both goals in a 2-1 win on Boxing Day 2010.

Darren McGregor will be involved in a matchday squad for the first time in almost a year and will be hoping the new campaign works out rather better than the previous two. However, while his return is good news, Kenny McLean will miss the start of the new season as will David Barron.

When looking at St Mirren FC home performance in league points, St Mirren FC’s performance is greatest when looking at opponents in the bottom 6 with an average of 0 points per game.

Against opponent such as Inverness CT that is currently placed in the bottom 6 of the Scottish Premier League St Mirren FC has managed to collect an average of 0 points in 0 matches this season. Concerning matches played at home against the bottom 6 this season St Mirren FC has collected 0 points on average in 0 matches.

When looking at Inverness CT away performance in league points, Inverness CT’s performance is greatest when looking at opponents in the bottom 6 with an average of 0 points per game.

Anton Ferdinand, Joey Barton and Argentinian Alejandro Faurlin will be available if required after returning from loan spells abroad.

Sheffield Wednesday will be without Lewis Buxton and Kieran Lee.

Defender Buxton is struggling with shin splints, while midfielder Lee requires surgery to resolve a hip problem and will be out of action for two months.

Albanian striker Adthe Nuhiu will be included in the squad as long as the club receive international clearance in time following his recent arrival from Austrian club Wels and fellow summer recruit Jacques Maghoma, signed from Burton, is also hoping to be involved.

Versatile midfielder Jeremy Helan turned his season-long loan from Manchester City into a permanent move this summer and is likely to start, while boss Dave Jones has no other injury or suspension worries.

Queens Park Rangers are ready to welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Loftus Road on Saturday afternoon, and hold the advantage on previous meetings between the two. Of the 29 games played, Rangers have recorded 11 wins, and Sheffield Wednesday have come away with 7 victories.

The previous match played between the two at Loftus Road was more than three years back, in April 2010, where the two sides shared the spoils courtesy of a 1-1 final scoreline in a Championship match.

Queens Park Rangers

Queens Park Rangers return to the Championship after two seasons in the top flight and are targeting an immediate return to the Premier League, which has been achieved 15 times since its inception in 1992.

The R's will want a repeat of their last opening day result at this level, when they beat Barnsley 4-0 at Loftus Road in 2010.

Harry Redknapp's club are starting a league campaign in front of their home supporters for the sixth successive season (W2, D1, L2).

Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday survived for a second season in the Championship after promotion from League One in 2012, finishing four places and four points above the relegation zone.

Dave Jones's side failed to score in 16 of their 46 Championship games last term - no club exceeded that.
The Owls have lost an opening day fixture only once in eight seasons (2007).

Former Burnley forward Paterson could start alongside Vaughan, who signed a permanent deal with the club this summer after his loan from Norwich last season.

Defender Jonathan Hogg, signed from Watford for an undisclosed fee, is likely to make his debut and Adam Hammill is hoping to start following his arrival from Wolves. The winger spent four months on loan with Huddersfield last season.

Head-to-head

When this fixture was last staged in February, Nottingham Forest thrashed a struggling Huddersfield 6-1.

Radoslaw Majewski scored a first-half hat-trick in Billy Davies's first win in his second spell at the club.

There have been 20 league matches between these clubs at the City Ground, and Huddersfield have won eight and lost eight.

Forest have conceded one goal in all but one of their last nine league matches against Huddersfield, the exception being the Terriers' only victory in the nine - 2-1 in November 2005 in West Yorkshire.

Forest were victorious on the only previous occasion they hosted Huddersfield at the outset of a new league season - 2-1 in League One in 2005.

Nottingham Forest

Formed in 1865, Nottingham Forest - the oldest club in the Championship - embark on their 50th season of second level league football and sixth in a row.

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield consolidated in their first second tier season in 12 years, finishing three places and four points above the drop zone in May.

Nugent, the Foxes' leading scorer last season with 16 goals, has missed the last two friendly matches with a thigh strain but the striker will be part of the squad that travels to Teesside.

Zoumana Bakayogo is the only new signing at the King Power Stadium this summer. The former Tranmere defender, who joined the club on a free transfer last week, will provide Paul Konchesky with competition for the left-back spot.

Striker Jermaine Beckford and central midfielder Richie Wellens were the notable departures from Pearson's squad during the close season.

Middlesbrough prepare to entertain Leicester City at Riverside Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and hold the advantage on previous meetings between the two. Of the 39 games played, Boro have recorded 17 wins, and Leicester City have come away with 13 victories.

The most recent encounter between these two sides at Riverside Stadium was less than a year ago, in September 2012, with Leicester City inflicting a narrow 1-2 defeat upon the Boro in a Championship match.

The first goal will be the 250th to feature in competitive matches between these clubs.

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough are making a fifth attempt to return to the Premier League, after a spectacular slump to the second-half of last season, which saw fall from third to 16th with just three wins in 21 games.

The Teesside club have won their opening league fixture just once in 12 seasons (2008).

The Foxes are looking to make a winning league start for the fifth time in six seasons, and third in a row.

Of the 18 games played, Whites have recorded 9 wins, and Brighton & Hove Albion have come away with 3 victories.

The most recent encounter between these two sides at Elland Road was less than a year ago, in April 2013, with Brighton & Hove Albion inflicting a narrow 1-2 defeat upon the Whites in a Championship match.

Teenage defender Sam Byram will play no part as he is still recovering from a hip problem which affected him late last season.

Striker El-Hadji Diouf, who continues to play catch-up with his fitness, is suspended anyway along with Jamaica international Rudy Austin following their dismissals against the Seagulls in last season's final home game.

David Lopez, meanwhile, is set to feature for Brighton.

Despite only playing 45 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Norwich during pre-season, the former Athletic Bilbao midfielder, who signed a new one-year deal this week, could be in contention to start.

Manager Oscar Garcia has no fresh injury concerns for his first league game in charge as striker Craig Mackail-Smith continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury which could keep him out until September.

New signing Adam Chicksen may be considered after the left-back joined on a three-year deal from MK Dons during the summer.

Head-to-head

Brighton are unbeaten in five Championship and League One meetings with Leeds (won two, drawn three).

Leeds, who last beat the Seagulls at home in October 2008, lost last season's corresponding fixture 2-1 as they finished with nine men, and Brighton 10.

They lost 1-0 away to Hull on the opening day of last season, but then went on to pick up 16 points from the next 18 available.
