After several weeks of meeting different men, going on amazing dates, and learning about their home lives, The Bachelorette will have the opportunity to continue dating one bachelor in the real world by presenting them with a single, red rose. Before this can happen, The Bachelorette must follow a gradual process of elimination, as her initial 25 bachelors are narrowed down week by week. The time has come for us to say farewell to all the body-sprayed, hair-gelled, spray-tanned and manicured detritus that has washed up on the shores of The Bachelorette‘s studio.
That’s right, it’s the episode where the men tell all about what it was like to live, work out next to and share hair products with their girlfriend’s twelve other boyfriends. In other words, it’s a night of filler meant to prolong fans’ agony as we wait to find out who Bachelorette Emily Maynard will choose to spend the rest of her life with.
Will it be Jef, the consonant-lacking entrepreneur who is still a kid at heart? Or Arie, the race car driver whom Emily loves to kiss, despite the fact that he hid his previous relationship with the show’s producer? We won’t know the answer until next Sunday’s three-hour blessed event. But last night we watched as men we barely remember attempted to stretch out their 15 minutes of fame. It was their night.
To kick off the show, we get a trip down memory lane to a little house where all roses go to die. The highlight reel included the time when Kalon called Emily’s daughter “baggage” and she told him to “get the [bleep] out.”
And when Ryan and his weird beard called Emily a trophy wife. And then there was that guy, Doug, who kissed her while she was dumping him. Everyone gets a gold star of awkward!
Sean, the most recently rejected bachelor, came on stage and confessed how much it hurt to be publicly abandoned by a woman he knew for a solid three weeks. Emily comes out to face him and announces that while his heart was broken, she ugly cried for several minutes after watching the show. Momentary ugliness definitely trumps a broken heart in reality-TV world.
The Bachelorette 8 is the eighth season of ABC reality television series The Bachelorette. The show premiered on May 14, 2012, featuring Emily Maynard and dating 25 men. Maynard was chosen by Brad Womack in the fifteenth season of The Bachelor, but they split after the show.
Maynard is the second former Bachelor winner to be star in The Bachelorette since Jen Schefft in season three.
This is the first season of The Bachelorette filmed in Maynard's hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, where she and her daughter Ricki Hendrick live (along with the child's paternal grandfather; the child's father died before she was born), rather than Los Angeles, marking this as the first time a show in The Bachelor franchise has taken place in the Southern United States and also the second time one has been filmed on the East Coast since New York City in season three.
The bachelorette is a pretty awful premise for a show seeing as how it deals with something as critical as marriage in such a game show kind of way. Over a dozen male bachelors stay in a luxury resort while each taking turns to go on numerous dates with the bachelorette, and each episode a number of the bachelors get eliminated by the bachelorette depending on how good of a chemistry there is between her and a bachelor.
The final remaining bachelor marries her. This is ridiculous. While it does make for some entertaining drama, this is real people we're dealing with here. The fact that they have to go through this show to get married is quite sad. The bachelors themselves were quite immature too. I saw one of them dump a sack of dog food on his head, and I could only shake my head at this spectacle.
