The series exposes the dirty little secrets that lie behind the pristine lawns and shiny closed doors of homes in the of this gated community. Mary Louise Parker stars as the suburban mom who resorts to selling weed to support her family after her husband unexpectedly dies. The final season of Weeds sees the Botwins settling in the suburbs of Connecticut. The episode also heavily revolved around the growing tension between Silas (Hunter Parrish) and Shane (Alexander Gould). One brother is a marijuana dealer and the other is training to be an NYC police officer. Silas seems to stress this problem a lot more than Shane. The way Shane sees it, by the time he’s graduated Nancy and Silas will be dealing weed off a cart in the mall. Weed will be legal! What will happen to the family business? Nancy also confronted Shane about the police academy.
It’s a scary job. He could get shot. Shane isn’t worried, though. He’s already been shot! Nancy wants him to stick to pursuing work as a puppeteer.
Kiku, the head model dealer from season 7, called Nancy to see how her rehabilitation was going. She needs more supplies and she needs Nancy to make the connections. At that moment she was stuck on Staten Island with a bunch of trashy thugs looking sell her faux weed.
Nancy ended up having to haul herself over there to save Kiku, missing her trip to the zoo in the process. Jill offered to take Stevie instead, much to Nancy’s displeasure. Nancy came up with a plan to retry the family dinner that went awry last time. Hopefully this time, no one will get shot in the face. Stevie will sit next to her.
In order to rescue Kiku from the goon with a Judge Judy tattoo, Nancy had to trade her fancy bedazzled cane for his jank one. Nancy and Kiku then rushed over to a laser tag center to meet Dimitri (Pablo Schreiber) and his band of fools. Dimitri, if you don’t remember, is her ex-lover/ supplier from last season. Kiku refers to Silas as a broke Christian Grey, but Nancy doesn’t even give a crap about who that is.
Leave it to Weeds to take down “Fifty Shades of Grey” in a single quip! She’s supposed to meet Dimitri at the yellow team base. He agrees to a deal with Nancy after she collapses due to all of the guns and strobe lights. He cuts her a break, and she offers to pay cash.
Huge fan of this show, even through the moves and absurd twists this show is still one of TV's best. Very few shows are strong enough to handle the exhaustive changes made by the writers. Season 8 is sort of a realization of that so far. Mary Louise Parker deserves an Emmy as does Justin Kirk.
Having watched and re-watched seasons 1-7, I can safely say season 8 is starting strong, from the clever intro that summarizes then entire cannon of weeds to date to the similarly apt monologue that Andy Botwin delivers unabashedly with a Rabbi regarding his relationship with Nancy in the hospital in the season premier episode. So far, this season promises to make up for the 'fleeing from Ricky Ricardo' season that I suffered through twice.
Mary Louise Parker plays a widowed suburban housewife forced to create new ways to generate enough income to support the lifestyle she and her family had become accustomed before her husband departed. Parker and Elizabeth Perkins are excellent representations of housewives dealing with serious problems in this unrealistic yet frighteningly realistic comedy about living in the suburbs.
Unrealistic because it is doubtful that this scenario could actually take place but realistic because the actors portray real suburban characters that you might meet anywhere in the US. The PTA scenes are a scream to any mom that has attended these mundane meetings. Kevin Nealon is great as the always high accountant looking to score and Justin Kirk accurately plays Parkers outrageously screwed up brother-in-law that can't seem to stay out of trouble.
Even though this is a comedy, it also examines important aspects of suburban life. Drug abuse, race relations, cancer, homosexuality, mortality and morality are all explored in a real life yet unreal setting. It kind of makes you think while you are laughing at the superb dialog.
