Chelsea were particularly impressive in the early part of the campaign as they swept to victories over Wigan, Reading and Newcastle, but they have not looked quite so fluent in recent weeks.

Having been held by Queens Park Rangers and drawn with Juventus in the UEFA Champions League, the Blues returned to winning ways in a hard-fought clash with Stoke last weekend before thumping Wolves in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

First-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny remains sidelined with an ankle problem so Vito Mannone will continue between the posts.

Emmanuel Frimpong returned to action from a long-term knee injury for the midweek Capital One Cup win over Coventry, but, along with fellow midfielder Jack Wilshere (ankle), will sharpen his fitness in the Under 21s game on Monday.

Czech winger Tomas Rosicky (hamstring) and defender Bacary Sagna (broken leg) are expected to feature within the next fortnight.

Arsenal prepare to entertain Chelsea at Ashburton Grove at lunchtime on Saturday, and hold the advantage on previous meetings between the two. Of the 85 games played, Gunners have recorded 42 wins, and Chelsea have come away with 21 victories.

The most recent encounter between these two sides at Ashburton Grove was less than a year ago, in April 2012, when they played out a goalless draw in a Premier League match.

Arsenal

Arsene Wenger completes 16 years in charge of the Gunners on Monday. Victory over Chelsea would hand him his 350th Premier League win as Arsenal boss.

Arsenal have lost just two league games in 21.

They play all four home London derbies in their next four league matches at the Emirates, concluding with November's North London derby against Tottenham.

The Gunners are 10 places higher, have five more points and a goal difference of 15 better than at this stage last season.

If selected, Mikel Arteta will be making his 250th start in British football, while Andrei Arshavin and Johan Djourou could make their 100th Premier League appearances.

Chelsea

Chelsea's only dropped points so far this term came in the capital: a goalless draw at QPR earlier this month.

Roberto Di Matteo's men have not conceded in their last 331 league minutes since Danny Guthrie's goal in August's 4-2 win over Reading.

Frank Lampard has scored 98 Premier League goals in London. He can become only the second player to net 100 goals in the capital after Thierry Henry (133 goals).

If selected, Branislav Ivanovic will be making his 100th Premier League start for the Blues, while John Terry is one goal away from 50 in Chelsea colours.
