Recent signings Darcy Blake and Damien Delaney will therefore continue their partnership at centre-half in the Irishman's absence.

Dougie Freedman could recall Brazilian attacker Andre Moritz, who performed well in the home win over Sheffield Wednesday last weekend but dropped to the bench at The Valley.

Midfielder Jonathan Williams, a substitute on Friday, is pushing to make his first league start of the season after recovering from a calf injury and Blackburn loanee David Goodwillie is awaiting his full debut.

Nottingham Forest also have no new injury or suspension problems to contend with.

Manager Sean O'Driscoll will have been encouraged by Simon Cox's fitness after the striker came off the bench to score the goal that began Forest's comeback in the 2-2 home draw against Birmingham on Saturday.

Cox was a major doubt for the game against the Blues after suffering a suspected foot fracture last week while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland. Subsequent scans revealed the forward did not suffer a break although O'Driscoll was still surprised the 25-year-old was fit enough to be among the substitutes.

"I was amazed," said O'Driscoll. "The diagnosis was that there may have been a fracture. We got him straight back here and found that, fortunately, there wasn't. Credit to him, he was desperate to play and he got his just reward. His touch and finish for the goal were excellent."

Nottingham Forest prepare to entertain Birmingham City at City Ground on Saturday afternoon, and hold the advantage on previous meetings between the two. Of the 50 games played, Forest have recorded 18 wins, and Birmingham City have come away with 15 victories.

The most recent encounter between these two sides at City Ground was less than a year ago, in October 2011, as the visitors ran out cosy 1-3 winners in a Championship match.
