We’ve all seen movies, mostly made for tweens and teens on TV, in which a shy, winsome girl by amazing coincidence meets her performing idol, usually a rock star, and not only gets a cool boyfriend but becomes a star herself.
“Hollywood Heights” starts from that premise and keeps spinning the story from there. Nick at Nite says it will run at least 80 episodes, making this a bold programming gamble for an audience long assumed to have no attention span.
The movies with this premise generally are stylized and almost a little cartoonish. But they’re also jammed solid with music and are so good-natured that no one minds the story could pretty much never happen in real life.
They’re modern fairy tales, feeding teen fantasies. It’s not the same fantasy as “Twilight,” but it’s rooted in the same sort of dreamy romanticism.
One reason these rock fantasies work as movies is that they rip right through the story. We get a showdown with the mean girl and then, boom, into the next song.
“Hollywood Heights” is betting that if the story takes enough twists, we won’t demand a happy ending after 90 minutes.
Eddie has a girlfriend, who of course is a rising model, Chloe Carte (Melissa Ordway). Chloe also has a history, it turns out, with Tyler Rorke (Justin Wilcynski), who used to be Eddie’s best bud and now is determined to bring him down.
We also get to know Loren’s winsome mom Nora (Jama Williamson) and Eddie’s dad Max (Carlos Ponce). Hey, look, there are 80 episodes here. We need bodies.
As the viewer might guess, this isn’t a short, simple fairy tale. Based on a popular and long-running Mexican telenovela, it gets complex, it folds back on itself, and everyone has high and low stretches.
Very addictive show... Cannot wait for each new episode!!! Recommend this show to anyone who likes a good, romantic, suspenseful, drama...this is your show.
My favorite parts of the show are the ones with the two main characters Eddie & Loren!!!! Cannot get enough of this show!! The only negative thing I can say about the show is there are a few actors who are less then impressive in there acting abilities.. Main person being Nick Krause who plays Adam one of Loren's high school friends.
The other character I could do with out is Dr. Don, annoying is all I can say. If you are going to start watching this show would highly recommend first catching up from the beginning episodes to the current episodes so you can fully understand all of the drama going on and appreciate the relationships and friendships. All in all excellent show and hope there will be more seasons!!
