One gifted student emerges as a star athlete in sarcastaball.Follows the misadventures of four irreverent grade-schoolers in the quiet, dysfunctional town of South Park, Colorado. South Park is an award-winning animated series from creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. They have invented a whole town full of colorful personalities, where a group of eight-year-old boys try to understand the world around them. Their parents, teachers, and town leaders all mean well, but the boys learn through their misadventures that even adults make mistakes, and even the youngest and slowest among us can be wise. Despite the serious issues tackled by the show, it is sharp, funny, and often brilliant. The crude animation, first done with paper cut-outs and then computerized, is deceptively primitive. The visual roughness fits the coarse language of the characters, because this is definitely a show for mature audiences. South Park is one of those rare shows that can make you laugh, and make you think about your long-held beliefs, both at the same time.
The new season of south park has begun and its just a funny as ever. The season kicked off with an episode called Reverse Cowgirl. Don’t be fooled by the title its not what you think. Clyde’s mum died after Clyde forgot to put the toilet seat down and she fell in. This lead to the usual over over the top reaction and extreme security measures where put in when people had to go to the bathroom.
Clyde and the South park gang decided to sue the inventor of the toilet and they weren’t going to let the fact the John Harrington was dead stop them from doing so.
Obvious nobody liked the new toilet laws least of all Cartman. So he decide to take a little baby and a security guard hostage in his bathroom to prove his point.
That is all the spoilers I will include in this review for people who haven’t yet seen the episode. I don’t normal like episodes that involve Clyde too much I think he’s a very boring character. Luckily this time he didn’t ruin the episode for me.
The thing I really like about South Park, is that they take a subject and really show it for what it’s worth. They beat it over and over again, till it’s dead, while pulling in pop culture references of what is going on around us right now. The ability for the show to make something actually reach a level of ridiculousness is golden.
(mechanic 1)I love how Kyle confronts Stan about making his movie free on the internet if “everyone should be allowed to see it”. Clearly taking a shot at the Bully movie which was given a R-rating and led to campaigning, and outrage.
Nothing is more satisfying then when you feel like your are part of an inside joke. Especially when its someone taking a crack at someone else. That’s where the writers really make South Park stand out. They take ‘pot-shots’ at people, companies and things and do it without actually coming straight out and saying this is who we are making fun of.
“Like aids, bullying is escalating and is spread mostly by penises.” It really feels like you are part of a nice little inside joke, and left thinking about it. (mechanic 2) In it’s own respect, South Park does come straight out and make fun of things blatantly, that has its place too, but I find it has less of an impact.
One of the huge ‘wins’ of the episode was the smack talk from grammy, that Butter’s had to take. Watching sweet ol’ grammy picking on innocent lil’ Butter’s was hilarious. This was the set up for the amazing monologue that Butter’s had with his Grammy at the end of the episode.
This is one of my favorite parts in most episodes, the moment where all their madness and mayhem makes sense, and it all becomes clear. (Mechanic 3) I felt that the monologue will be very well received, and really puts the topic of bullying into perspective.
Butter: “I finally stood up for myself. I got real mean and I beat the shnot out of Dr. Oz. I can’t lie, it felt kinda good, at first. But since then, all I have is just a kinda dark, empty feeling. And then I realized, that’s how you must feel, all the time. Poor ol’ grandma. You know I’ve been getting lots of advice how to deal with you.
Stand up to you, tell on you, but I kinda realize there is just people like you out there. All over the place. When you’re a kid, things seem like they are gonna last forever, but they’re not. Life changes, well you won’t always be around, someday you’re going to die, someday pretty soon.”
South Park is one of the most misunderstood, and also the most intelligent shows on television.
South Park is a satirical look on most anything from Western society - politics, the media, today's youth, celebrities, violence in our society, and much much more. However, instead of presenting these issues as they are, they alternately project them through the exploits of four young boys in South Park, Colorado.
Unfortunately, many people take the show solely at face value, refusing to see the intelligence in it - South Park is admittedly filled with racist and sexist jokes, along with other offensive material. The problem lies within the fact that most people don't seem to understand the concept of satire and self parody.
