Based on the 1990s FOX hit, Beverly Hills 90210, the series revolves around a new generation of friends dealing with the trials and tribulations of life while living in the most glamorous city in America.90210 is an American teen drama television series developed by Rob Thomas, Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs, and the fourth series in the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise created by Darren Star. 90210 is the first series produced by CBS Productions under the company's re-launch, but is now produced by CBS Television Studios. The series premiered on The CW on September 2, 2008 with a two episode special.

The series revolves around several students at the fictional West Beverly Hills High School, including new Beverly Hills residents Annie Wilson and Dixon Wilson.

Their father, Harry Wilson, has returned from Kansas to his Beverly Hills childhood home with his family to care for his mother, former television and theater actress Tabitha Wilson, who has a drinking problem and clashes with his wife Debbie.

Annie and Dixon struggle to adjust to their new lives while making friends and yet adhering to their parents' wishes. During its first two seasons, 90210 featured cast members from the original series, including Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling, Ann Gillespie, and Joe E. Tata.

However, after the conclusion of the second season, there are no plans for any original stars to return. DVR ratings for the series have sometimes doubled its broadcast ratings.

The project was put on the fast track by the network[clarification needed], and an order of the pilot was expected by the end of the month. The Beverly Hills, 90210 creator, Darren Star, was announced not to be involved with the project.

The only surviving element from the original series was believed to be Creative Artists Agency, the talent agency which conceived the spin-off idea. Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas was in negotiations to write the pilot and Mark Piznarski was in talks to direct.

I think Liam needs to accept that although the universe blessed him with a perfect face and body, it also gave him the worst luck when it comes to women. She doesn’t give with both hands, baby. In this week’s episode of 90210, “The Sea Change,” we said goodbye (maybe) to Liam’s latest mistake, Vanessa, when she accidentally fell over the balcony of their rented beach-house and (maybe) got washed out to sea. Anyone who knows the conventions, though, can probably safely assume that she got up, staggered away without being noticed and will return during sweeps to take someone (probably Silver) hostage.

For the time being, though, Liam is free to be with Silver again, if he can get over the fact that she’s going to have Teddy’s baby. She’s not pregnant yet, but she’s got his swimmers now and it’s only a matter of time. I was very worried that they both might have gotten drunk enough at Naomi and Max’s reception to attempt conception the old-fashioned way, but Teddy is really, really gay, and I like that so much better.

As for the reception, Naomi decided to throw a conservative party to show Max’s investors that she isn’t going to be a disruptive force in his life. Of course, in doing so she almost drove away his two biggest clients, but it all worked out in the end. I still say Max’s BFF is out for her blood; he just knows now that all he has to do is set the bad situations up and Naomi will fall into them every time.

Speaking of falling, Dixon’s pride kept him from letting Annie help him with his physical therapy and it ended well with him lying on the floor at the reception, unable to get up. But at least Annie has a potential new bed-buddy in the sarcastic jerk she and Dixon met at PT. He might not be able to do much between the sheets, but at least he’s not A) paying her or B) married to God.

So it wasn't bad enough that CW lost 20% of its meager audience last year. They just had to come up with yet another brain-dead show supposedly tailored for young adults but actually talking down to them...

Guess what? CE is already down another 15% from last year's disaster ratings.

Of course, what could we expect from a network where Gossip Girl is hailed as some sort of successful model (successful how? at losing audiences?) But to go back to 90210, it is the brainchild of Rob Thomas and a couple other bad writers and is appropriately devoid of any sign of intelligent life.

The casting is awful, as befit the CW, which seems to think that young people do not care about acting ability in their actors.
