It debuted on September 21, 2011, and aired on Wednesday nights at 10:00 pm Eastern/9:00 pm Central.
The pilot was screened early on ABC's website during a promotional tie-in with Amazon Kindle.
The series was picked up for a full season by ABC after garnering a high 3.3 Nielsen rating in the all-important 18-49 age advertising demographics for its pilot episode and regularly winning its timeslot against every other television network (CBS, Fox, The CW, and NBC) in 18-34 demos.
Madeleine Stowe was nominated for the 2012 Golden Globe Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a TV Drama, while the series was nominated for Favorite New TV Drama at the 2012 People's Choice Awards. The series currently airs in 39 countries worldwide.
Revenge has become ABC’s highest-rated series in Wednesday’s 10 p.m. timeslot since Lost's 2006–2007 season and has become the only new series in more than four years to replicate the 18–49 demo ratings success that Lost had in its timeslot since leaving the air.
Emily VanCamp as Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke.[1] Born Amanda Clarke, she returns to the Hamptons under a new identity, Emily Thorne – a wealthy socialite dedicated to charity work – to exact revenge on the people responsible for her father's wrongful conviction for terrorism and responsible for his death.
Emily is extremely intelligent and dedicated to clearing her father's name and bringing down every person responsible for his downfall while doing so, she tries to keep her identity and scheme a secret. Emily eventually becomes romantically involved with Daniel Grayson in order to get closer to his family.
She later finds out Charlotte is her half-sister and ultimately chooses to protect her from her revenge against the Graysons. In the season 2 premiere, it is revealed Charlotte knew Victoria was alive and told Emily her whereabouts, as she believed Emily could help her.
Emily claims since Victoria took her mother and father from her, she is going to take Charlotte away from Victoria. However, her conscience wears thin over the fact that Charlotte needs her mother, and decides not to use Charlotte. Emily Alyn Lind plays young Amanda Clarke.
On May 10, 2012, ABC renewed the series for a second season which airs on Sundays at 9:00PM Eastern/8:00PM Central beginning on September 30, 2012, replacing the timeslot previously occupied by Desperate Housewives.
Oh the old phrase "revenge is a dish best served cold" is never far from the truth as the plot of this series provides. Simple in it's execution, twisting, like a snake in the garden of fertile soil abounding with fruit, and then without warning, strikes it's victim when he/she least expects it.
A poison that grows within the human psyche of one Emily Thorne, whose past tragedy in her life leads her into a dark world of cold-hearted, calculated pursuit of vengeance. But in doing so, will she sacrifice her very soul?
It is fitting then that one would find an infatuation with a show such as this as it plays on one of the most demure and unfathomable aspects of human nature and the conflicts and consequences it brings to social inner-circles of family and friends so much so that one becomes blinded by arrogance, self-destruction, and wanton contempt towards those that have wronged the individual.
As the story unfolds, secrets are unveiled for all to witness this dark and deadly tragedy that will inevitably lead to an even greater and terrible conclusion.
