Arsene Wenger's men will be well-rested after their scheduled Boxing Day clash with West Ham was called off due to a planned London Underground strike.

Ahead of that postponement, Arsenal had won their last three games on the bounce and will be looking to climb as high as third with another success on Saturday.

The Toon's defeat in Manchester saw them slip into 15th place and they will be keen to put more distance between themselves and the drop zone.

But Pardew's side have lost seven of their last nine games and could struggle to overturn a Gunners team who have the added incentive of leapfrogging North London rivals Tottenham in the table, depending on results elsewhere.

Newcastle's record against Arsenal will not offer much comfort, with the Magpies having won just one of their last 10 Premier League games against the Gunners, while they have seen a player sent off in three of their last four meetings with the club.

Newcastle boss Pardew faces a fresh selection headache ahead of the trip to the capital.

Midfielder Cheick Tiote returns from a one-match ban, but counterpart Vurnon Anita is out with an ankle injury sustained in the 4-3 defeat at Manchester United, while central defender Mike Williamson is suspended after collecting his fifth booking of the season at Old Trafford.

Jonas Gutierrez (knee) has joined fellow midfielders Yohan Cabaye (groin) and Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring) as well as central defender Steven Taylor (also hamstring) on the sidelines, while full-back Ryan Taylor and midfielders Dan Gosling and Haris Vuckic (all knee) are still missing.

Arsenal prepare to entertain Newcastle United at Ashburton Grove on Saturday afternoon, looking to continue an impressive record. The Gunners are clearly on top, winning 52.94% of the games played between the two.

The most recent encounter between these two sides at Ashburton Grove was less than a year ago, in March 2012, the Gunners carving out a narrow 2-1 victory in a Premier League match.

Arsenal

Arsenal are on a three-match Premier League winning streak - their best form since March.

They have won 18 league matches in 2012, their joint-lowest tally in a calendar year under Arsene Wenger. They also recorded 18 victories in 1997.

If Arsenal lose against Newcastle, they will equal their most defeats in a calendar year under Wenger - 10, set in 2006 and 2010.

The Gunners have kept seven clean sheets in 18 league games, a record bettered only by Chelsea (eight) and Stoke (nine).

Theo Walcott has scored 11 goals in all competitions for the club this season, just two shy of equalling his most prolific campaign in 2010-11.

Newcastle

Alan Pardew's side have lost seven of their last nine league fixtures, collecting six points out of the last available 27.

Newcastle are yet to record an away win this season (D4, L5). They have lost their last four fixtures on the road, conceding 10 goals in the process.

The Magpies have scored in each of their last six league games, their best scoring run of the season.
