Owning their own buisness gives them the flexibility to spend their time satisfying their own distorted needs. This provocative sitcom is known for pushing the envelope by tackling some controversial issues. Because of the show's edgy subject matter, twisted humor, and the gang's hilariously unconventional approach at life, this series drew a small cult following during its first season. The second season addition of Danny DeVito to the cast gave the series a slight ratings boost that helped its renewal.
Amazing show. One of the best comedies of all time. It sticks to its formula, but that isn't a bad thing. Just as funny as ever and still one of the smartest shows on television! Some people fell for the Season 8 trailer. Lol. I still can't believe any "fans" out there would believe that the cast would be replaced. That is all :).
After a slow start, It has definently gotten better as it has progressed through the season. Still not as great as previous seasons but still enjoyable to watch.
Kerri Kenney (Reno 911!) guest starred this week as Dee's therapist, who made the mistake of recommending that Dee have a "cooperative dinner" with the gang to resolve some of their issues. As one might expect, things took a nasty turn when it was time to wash the dishes.
According to Dee, there was screaming, tears, physical threats, Frank pulled out his gun, and somebody dropped the N bomb. So the gang agrees to let Dee's therapist decide who is responsible for cleaning the dishes. The dinner itself sounded really hilarious. I would like to have seen flashbacks of that.
Charlie is annoyed that everyone keeps telling him what to do. The therapist tries to help him embrace his unique identity but inadvertently convinces him that he needs to be weirder. Taking a cue from her, Charlie reveals he has been hiding a pigeon in his jacket. He throws the bird up in the air, encouraging it to fly, but it plops down on the table. In classic Lenny (Of Mice and Men) fashion, he had hugged the pigeon to death.
The therapist asks Dee about her fantastical claim that she was originally chosen as the lead for The Notebook but, because of scheduling conflicts, she had to decline. Dee insists it is true and compliments Rachel McAdams as her replacement. The therapist, clearly fed up, still believes she is lying. Dee responds by reciting a scene from Good Will Hunting.
Think South Park in South Philly. Danny Devito does just enough to anchor the cast but still allows the younger and lesser known co-stars to develop their characters around him. Often times, a more established actor with Devito's credentials will wash out the co-stars and smother the show.
This is not the case with Sunny. Put simply, this show works. It may take another solid season for this show to cultivate a substantial core audience. But it seems FX is willing to stick with it long enough to find out. Even if FX decides to run this show up against the big boys (CBS' "Without a Trace") in the fall, Thursdays at 10pm is a perfect time slot.
