The UK version of the hit show Jersey Shore. MTV cameras follow some of Newcastle’s finest lads and lasses, as we sneak a peek into their glamorous lives and party lifestyles. From the city that gave us Cheryl Cole, Ant & Dec & Gazza, meet the real Angels Of The North as the girls strut their stuff in mini-skirts shorter than their belts, whilst the guys pump iron at the gym and drink more vodka shots than Newcastle Brown Al.Geordie Shore is a reality television series broadcast by MTV UK. Set in and around Newcastle Upon Tyne, and South Shields, it is the British adaptation of American show Jersey Shore. The first episode aired on 24 May 2011.Geordie Shore is the first official adaptation from the American version. The first series was heavily publicised before its release and after its success, a two-part Magaluf Madness special was commissioned. Series 2 was announced on 7 December 2011 and ran for eight episodes, viewing figures still held up strong and a third series was commissioned and has been filmed in Cancún, Mexico. A fourth series was also commissioned on 24 May 2012.Although often compared to its contemporary reality shows The Only Way Is Essex and Made in Chelsea, Geordie Shore is thought to be much less of a 'structured reality'.
The events are presented more like a documentary and production forgoes the glossy, soap like style the previous programmes adopt. Members of crew can be seen to intervene when scenes on Geordie Shore are getting out of hand.
Geordie Shore was commissioned in January 2011. In June 2011, two summer specials based in Magaluf were announced as well as a reunion special. On 15 August 2011 it was announced that Geordie Shore had been recomissioned for a second series with an extended eight episode run.On 7 December 2011 it was confirmed the second series would begin on 31 January 2012.[10] After the Magaluf specials Greg Lake announced he was to leave the show and not appear in the second series. Rebecca Walker and Ricci Guarnaccio were cast as Lake's replacements.
For series two the cast moved from their home in Jesmond to a new house in a converted warehouse on the outskirts of the city. In January 2012 the cast launched their own fragrance, capturing the essence of Newcastle.
Titled L’eau De Geordie (the world's first ever KEBAB scented perfume), their spoof perfume was to mark the premiere of the second series.
When i viewed this page and saw there was no reviews, i thought i would attempt to get the ball rolling on reviews of Geordie shore. I never watched the original series (jersey shore) however i would be prepared to put money on this been a better show.
Old folk will have a seriously low opinion on this show as they think its a bunch of uneducated idiots running around failing in every aspect of life, and funnily enough, the Sudoku fanatics would be correct. However this north - eastern lot have a certain charm to them that will only appeal to some teens and early 20's.
What makes this show so charming? for me its the escape from the usual miseries of life that are visible in soaps and drama's. Or maybe its because its a welcome rest from other reality shows which push the boundaries of terrible tele further. e.g: Made in Chelsea, The only way is Essex. (fans, please don't try and say it deserved that BAFTA)
Another strong point is through all the drama there is visible character building with out the show becoming dull and emotional.
Perhaps some of the issues the house mates create themselves through immaturity is a slight fault, especially when they argue then are suddenly friends again. That's the only flaw i can think of about Geordie Shore.
At the risk of sounding slightly weird, you would have to be in a good mood to sit through this, because its all about other people having a great time.
Oh, and if this doesn't convince you its worth a watch, there's some nudity. That's only for randy teens though.
So, taking everything into account, Its a bit of a roller coaster as there is a lot going on and the show changes direction every once in a while which is very welcome. With plenty of laughs along the way, with a nice little bit of drama in there as well. Because of this, i rate it a healthy 8.3.. if that's not a little bit random.
