The series follows them just out of the police academy where they bonded together, fought together, drank together, worked together and slept together. And now they're on the job together. They're kids with guns, learning firsthand the hardest kind of policing there is. They are first responders and they are about to learn that no amount of training prepares you for life.
William Shatner guest stars on the third season of the police drama that sees a new rookie Nick Collins (Peter Mooney) joining the group.
The other is a summer import that nobody figured anybody would notice. Whoops.
The one nobody would notice comes back tonight giving those who didn’t watch it last summer a chance to catch up on its many back stories.
Yes, it is ridiculous to imagine that everyday, working cops have haircuts that even John Edwards couldn’t afford and faces and bodies that would make Gisele worry about cellulite.
That said, tonight’s episode has William Shatner — the Betty White of men.
The guy is so good he makes you forget everybody else’s back stories and frontal assets.
Tonight, he plays the grandfather of a little girl who disappeared at a fair seven years earlier while with him. Shatner has taken to the bottle, but he hasn’t stopped searching for the girl — now, presumably a 14-year-old.
The story comes together when he is involved in an accident with officers Andy (Missy Peregrym) and Sam (Ben Bass).
Both cops were suspended for “behavior unbecoming an officer” last season and . . . well, it’s a long story.
New cop dramas come out every year or two and most are hit or miss, but there is something to this show that leaves me hoping it gets picked up again for another season. The show follows a group of fresh rookies trying to find their way on the force through mistakes and errors in judgement.
It's filmed and set in Toronto, with its share of Canadian actors so that hit home with me. I read a review of this show that was very harsh and was disappointed that the show wasn't accurate in terms of what actual police work is like for rookies in terms of the amount of freedom they have in this show and the ability to make decisions.
TV is meant for entertainment so I'm glad they don't have it accurate to a tee. But the emotions, fears, camaraderie, and pain these characters go through while trying to find their bearings in a new career are very real I think and contributes to the strength of the show.
