The doctors of Oceanside Wellness and Pacific Wellcare work on the most difficult cases, patients whose medical needs often pose moral and ethical dilemmas. Though they may heatedly disagree at work, and though their personal lives may complicate matters, at the end of the day they are the best of friends, always ready to be there for each other.Addison settles into her new life after making a decision between Jake and Sam; Violet fears the worst when Pete doesn't show up to his preliminary court hearing; and Charlotte swears Cooper to secrecy when she receives shocking news.
Meanwhile, Amelia celebrates one year of sobriety and Sheldon rekindles a romance with his ex-wife.
The sixth season of the medical drama will be without actor Tim Daly due to budgetary issues, as Addison (Kate Walsh) is faced with a choice that could change things again.
On May 11, 2012, Private Practice was renewed for a sixth season. The sixth season will not feature Tim Daly as Shonda Rhimes informed his agent that his character will be out due to budgetary cuts and will be the final season for Kate Walsh presumably after 13 episodes of the season if the sixth season is not extended.
This is one of those shows that has been discredited by many viewers as a simple spin-off. Think it not a spin-off, but an extension. Before simply saying, "I have to make a choice between Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy. I can't watch both." Give Private Practice a chance.
The all-star cast is incredible. And Kate Walsh is even better now that she is in her element with actors and characters who are her age, and act like it. Grey's Anatomy's story now seems immature, and repulsively similar to high school in comparison to Private Practice's adults in their late thirties/early forties who are fed up with the crap of relationships. These characters have been divorced, been broken up with, and are looking for something of substance and meaning to add to their lives.
Yes, the individual episode format of medical conflict is similar to that of Grey's Anatomy. But more than just surgery plays its part in this show; therapy, alternative medicine, pediatrics and simple family medicine can be just as complex as surgery; often more-so since the patient is conscious and often fuels the issue with their personality problems.
So give this show a chance. The cast is great and the storyline is much more mature than Grey's Anatomy. If you don't try it, you won't know if you like it.
Tim Daly may not be returning to Private Practice, but the status of his character will weigh heavily on the minds of his colleagues when this ABC drama returns on September 25.
That's what happens when you get led off in handcuffs for the "murder" of a patient.
