City got back on track with an impressive win at Newcastle United last weekend but they will be looking to rid themselves of the memory of the derby loss and return to home comforts.

That is bad news for Reading, who sit rock-bottom of the table after losing six successive matches, including Monday's drubbing at the hands of Arsenal.

The pressure is mounting on McDermott as a consequence and he remains the favourite with the bookies to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Reading can at least take some hope from the fact they have won two and lost just one of the last four away league games against City.

The Royals have also won three and lost one of the four Premier League meetings between the two sides but the last encounter saw City win 1-0 in the 2010/11 FA Cup.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini hopes to have captain Vincent Kompany available to face Reading while striker Mario Balotelli, who backed down over a club fine in midweek, is ruled out by a virus.

The defender missed last week's win at Newcastle with a groin problem while midfielder James Milner is also close to fitness after a hamstring injury.

Forward Samir Nasri (hamstring) has been ruled out and full-back Aleksandar Kolarov (knee) is unavailable.

Manchester City

Roberto Mancini celebrated three years as City manager on 19 December. His side have only won two of their last five league matches (W2, D2, L1).

They have not lost successive home league matches since 1-0 defeats by Manchester United and Everton four years ago. The last time they went three home matches without a win was October-November 2009, when they drew all three fixtures.

The defending league champions have scored more goals (33) and recovered more points from losing positions (15) than any other side bar Manchester United. Only Stoke have conceded fewer goals than City.

Mancini's side have won all 13 of the Premier League matches that Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez have started together. They are also unbeaten in the 21 league games in which Aguero has scored (W20, D1).

Reading

Reading have suffered six successive league defeats, their worst run since an eight-match losing streak in the top flight between December 2007 and February 2008. They were relegated that season.

They have the division's worst away record, having collected only two points out of a possible 27.

Brian McDermott's side have dropped an unrivalled 17 points from winning positions this season. They are the only team not to have won a game in which they opened the scoring (D3, L2).

The Royals have conceded a league-high 36 goals in 17 games.

According to Opta, they have now faced 306 shots at goal - more than any other side in the top five European leagues this season.
